The decision is often formed in the search view—before a click to your site. If your product data isn’t correct, complete, and consistent between the Merchant Center feed, product detail pages (PDP), and structured data, your products won’t be selected. That’s true regardless of how much you spend on ads or how sharp your copy is.
For companies selling both B2B and B2C, this is more than a technical detail. You handle public consumer prices, promotions, and delivery promises—while also running net pricing, volume steps (MOQ), selling units (e.g., 6-packs), contract terms, and sometimes entirely different attribute requirements in B2B. AI Mode won’t tolerate a public feed price that differs from the page price, and it won’t “understand” incomplete items. Consistency and real time are hygiene, not “nice-to-have.”

What Google AI Mode means in practice
Traditional search has optimized for clicks to your site where the persuasion happens. In AI Mode, more of the filtering happens in the results themselves. The rule is simple: Google elevates what’s reliable and legible and ignores what looks uncertain or contradictory. Reliability rests on three things:

You need to eliminate them in your architecture, not in your marketing.
Why moving early is a revenue question — not an “SEO initiative”
Acting early has three direct revenue effects.

Show stock in a way that reflects how you can actually fulfill per market, not a global “in stock” that then breaks in checkout. Tie translations to product attributes so structured data mirrors the correct language.
This sounds obvious, but you gain a lot by taking a couple of days to retire the “temporary” special cases created before a launch that then stuck around.
Make the work measurable — without drowning in dashboards
You can keep measurement straight without building a new BI platform. Focus on four signals that correlate with revenue:

Work with process instead of heroics
This becomes stable when you connect the tech to a few simple ways of working.
At product launch, add a checkpoint: are all mandatory attributes present in PIM, is the category correct, do image requirements hold, are GTIN/MPN correct, is the selling unit right? When PIM signals “ready,” publishing is triggered and schema.org markup is added to the PDP without manual middle steps.
At price change, the pricing system must be the only source that changes price. Feed and page follow. If there’s a hard-coded price text somewhere in the templates, that’s a debt item that must go; otherwise divergence returns every campaign.
At stock events, update both Merchant Center and the PDP. If you run multiple stock points per market, decide how you want to present that publicly (e.g., an aggregated availability and a nuanced ETA text). Whatever your strategy, it must be consistent across all sources.
On error, you should get an alert to the right person with a clear message (“SKU 123 missing GTIN; publishing blocked”). Fix the error in the source system, not by “masking it” in the feed. That’s the only way to really prevent relapses.

“SEO will fix this.” SEO helps you write clearer text and structure pages. But if price, stock, and attributes aren’t consistent between feed, PDP, and schema.org, AI Mode won’t want to use your data. That’s why you start with integration and the data model.

Start with an inventory. Where do price, stock, and attributes come from today? Where do mismatches occur? Which SKU groups matter most (category, brand, season)? Also map how quickly changes make it to the feed and the PDP. This is a week of focused work.
Move on to consistency and events. Re-route the parts that handle price/stock/promo so they publish on events—first in a priority category where volume is high and the risk appetite is sensible. Add checks that block publishing when requirements aren’t met. The goal is that within a few weeks you have a pilot that already yields fewer rejections, fewer cancellations, and faster campaign exposure.
Then scale category by category. When the pattern works, repeat it where it gives the most effect. Meanwhile, establish a simple weekly rhythm with three short questions: what’s the share of approved products, how many mismatches do we have, what does latency look like? Everything else is fine-tuning.
Legal and trust — get it right from the start
You don’t need to overwork the legal side, but two things must be in place. First, personal data must be handled correctly under GDPR.
